I grew up in a traditional Mexican-American household where I was one of 9 kids and food was a big part of our culture, more like our way of life. That was how we showed love, appreciation, and celebrated any and every occasion. I was born in Utah and lived in Texas, Oregon, and California before setting down in Idaho. I grew up in a small agricultural community in Homedale, Idaho. My family migrated there from Texas to work during planting to harvesting seasons.
I did not grow up playing sports or being active. My activity was confined to the playground during recess and chasing my brother outside. We learned how to cook as young girls of 10-12 years old, since that was what girls are supposed to do in our culture, and stayed home a lot. This is where eating out of boredom was born.
I grew up with a low self-image, I attribute that to my weight and physical body. My mom always struggled with her weight going from size 7 to size 20 in one year. So like a good Mexican, I inherited that trait. I watched my mom try every fad diet out on the market. I grew up a gordita, so to speak, (that means chunky girl in Spanish). All my family has weight issues that have tackled their self-confidence and they were always on a constant yo-yo diet. Like them, my self-esteem was affected by my own weight struggles.
It was my last semester in college where it finally clicked for me. I came out a different person spiritually, physically and mentally. I managed to lose the 20lbs+ my last year. I decided to make it a priority. I started working out consistently and eating smart and managed to drop 5 sizes. Health became an important part of my life, which then shaped my career and lead me to where I am today.
Fitness and health is such an important part of my life because it is the one area I can control and be happy with. It allows me to bring a healthy and happy platform to my family, career, lifestyle, and all other departments of my life!
"My vision and mission of empowering individuals to take control of their health. I’m in the business of showing you all “how” you can play an active role in self care." I want that for all people.
Si se puede!
